A wildfire raging farm and ranch land in Central Texas, drove through rain-starved to destroy nearly 500 homes, while rapid progress, in part by howling winds from the remnants of tropical storm Lee was owejannyje. At least 5,000 people were out of their homes in Bastrop County, about 25 miles (40 km) East of Austin and about 400 were in shelters, officials said. Read more
